- Acidophilus and bifidobacteria are important supplements that restore friendly bacteria in the intestines and normalize bowel action. Constipation fosters the development of acne and can worsen an already existing condition. In combination with a fiber-rich diet, acidophilus and bifidobacteria help to keep the bowels regular. Friendly flora in the bowel cleanses and strengthens the intestinal function. Probiotics are particularly important if you are taking antibiotics, as these drugs destroy both good and bad bacteria. Take a probiotic supplement as recommended on the product label until your skin improves. If you are taking antibiotics, take these supplements at least one hour before or after taking the medication.
