Herbal treatment for appendicitis is intended to support recovery from surgery. It is not meant to be a substitute for surgical treatment. If you suspect appendicitis, seek medical treatment immediately.
Once the crisis is over, follow this regimen below to help your body recover.
- Days 1-4: Take one dose of an Echinacea and goldenseal supplying 250 to 500 milligrams of Echinacea and 150 to 300 milligrams of goldenseal three times daily. Echinacea and goldenseal help to detoxify the blood after anesthesia. They also support the immune system and can help prevent a possible infection in a surgical wound.
- Days 5-8: Take 500 milligrams of astragalus three times daily. With its rich concentration of trace minerals and micronutrients, this herb helps to strengthen the immune system. Do not take astagalus if you have a fever, however. If you have a fever, continue talking Echinacea and goldenseal until the fever is gone.
- Days 4-14: Take 50 to 75 milligrams of pine-bark or grape-seed extract three times a day. These herbal extracts are high in bioflavonoid and act as natural anti-inflammatory.
- Days 8-12: Take 100 milligrams of standardized Siberian ginseng extract containing 0.5 percent eleutheroside E thirty minutes before breakfast and another thirty minutes before lunch. This is another excellent source of trace minerals and micronutrients, and will help strengthen your internal defenses.
- Days 13-16: Take one dose of a gentian and dandelion root combination formula supplying 250 to 300 milligrams of each herb three times daily. If your digestion is impaired, continue taking them for one month.
- Once the incision has closed and healing has begun, and your surgeon gives you the okay, gently rub vitamin E oil, castor oil, or evening primrose oil into the wound to minimize scaring.
