Athletes Foot

Read more about...

Athlete's foot is a fungal infection caused by any of several related organisms. It is similar to the condition known as ringworm. People often develop athlete's foot after prolonged exposure to warm and moist environments, such as shower floors, locker rooms, and sweaty socks. Although it is contagious, athlete's foot seems most likely to occur in predisposed individuals.

Symptoms of athlete's foot include burning, itching, scaling, cracking, sores, and tiny blisters between the toes and on the soles of the feet. Athlete's foot can usually be treated successfully at home. However, it is possible for a bacterial infection to develop alongside a fungal infection. If the condition persists or gets worse after treatment, see your doctor for further help.
