- Alpha-lipoic acid is powerful anti-oxidant. Take 150 milligrams daily for one month, then cut back to 150 milligrams twice daily for three months. Other antioxidants that may help include N-acetylcysteine and coenzyme Q10. Take 250 milligrams of N-acetylcysteine three times daily and 30 milligrams of lipid-soluble coenzyme Q10 four times a day.
