Cervical Dysplsia is a condition in which abnormal cells grow in the tissues of the cervix, the narrow lower part of the uterus that joins with the vagina, It causes no symptoms in the woman who has it, but can be detected by a doctor's examination. This is important because certain types of abnormal cervical cells can turn cancerous if not treated early and effectively. Without an examination that includes a Pap smear, there is no way to tell that cellular changes are occurring.

It is important to realize that while cervical dysplasia may if untreated progress to cervical cancer this is by no means certain. In fact, only one in ten precancerous cells of the type detected in a Pap test is likely to develop into cervical cancer. Many cases of cervical dysplasia ultimately return to normal on their own. This does not mean you should not take an abnormal Pap finding seriously, however. If the result of a first Pap smear are inconclusive the most common abnormal result your doctor will schedule a follow-up test, you have time to make improvements in the next reading. You might be surprised to learn that you can do a great deal to help your self achieve a normal reading in your follow-up Pap smear. The focus of this entry is on using primarily natural means to give your body what it needs to correct abnormal cells and reserve a diagnosis of cervical dysplasia. Any self-treatment for cervical dysplasia should be discussed with a physician.
