- Vitamin A aids in healing skin tissue. Take 10,000 international units of vitamin A and 25,000 international units of its precursor, beta-carotene, once a day for ten days to one month.
Note: If you are pregnant, or intend to get pregnant, or if you have liver disease, consult your doctor before taking supplemental vitamin A. Pregnant women should not ingest a total of more than 25,000 international units of supplemental vitamin A per week from all sources. - Vitamin C and bioflavonoid help to stimulate the immu7ne system and resolve a fever in the initial stages of the illness. The first week, take 500 to 1, 000 milligrams of vitamin C in mineral ascorbate form, plus an equal amount of bioflavonoid, three to four times a day. The following week, take the same combination twice a day. Then continue to take the same combinations once a day for three to four weeks.
- Zinc promotes healing and stimulates the immune system. Take 25 to 50 milligrams of zinc twice a day for two weeks.
Note: take zinc with food to prevent stomach upset. If you take over 30 milligrams of zinc on a daily basis for more than one or two months, you should also take 1 to 2 milligrams of copper each day to maintain a proper mineral balance. - If you are restless and having difficulty sleeping, a calcium and magnesium combination supplement may help. Take a dose containing 400 milligrams of calcium and 250 milligrams of magnesium twice during the day and once again at bedtime for one week.
Note: In excessive amounts, magnesium acts as a laxative. If you develop diarrhea, decrease the dosage.
