Aloe vera soothes and heals while it helps ensure soft stools. Select food-grade aloe vera juice and take ¼ cup twice daily.

Cat's claw has known anti-inflammatory effects, as well as antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial properties. Take 500 milligrams of standardized extract three times a day.

Note: Do not use cat's claw if you are pregnant or nursing, or if you are an organ-transplant recipient. Use it with caution if you taking an anticoagulant (blood thinner).

Licorice has been shown to have therapeutic effects long-term ulcers, indicating that it may prove valuable against the ulcerative effects of Crohn's disease. The effective dosage was 760 milligrams taken three times daily. This herb also has anti-inflammatory and antiallergic properties. Select deglycyrrhizinated (DGL) chewable tablets.

Note: Ordinary licorice can elevate blood pressure, and should not be taken on a daily basis for more than five days in a row. DGL should not have this effect, however.

Reishi mushroom is an excellent natural anti-inflammatory that is useful for a variety of autoimmune disorders. It often helps to reduce and initiate the healing of ulcers in people with Crohn's disease. Take 500 milligrams three times daily.
