Blueberry leaf tea has been used historically for insulin regulation. This herb also contains anthocyanidins, which help to protect the eyes. Take a cup of blueberry leaf tea two or three times daily. With repeated use, your need for insulin may be reduced.

Bilberry, a botanical relative of blueberry, increases natural insulin production in the body. You can take it instead of (or on an alternating basis with) blueberry leaf tea. Select a product containing 25 percent anthocyanidins (also called PCOs) and take 80 milligrams two or three times daily.

Bitter melon aids in the regulation of blood sugar. Take 200 milligrams of standardized bitter melon extract three times a day.

Garlic can be helpful in regulating blood sugar. Take at least 1 fresh clove or 1,000 milligrams of dried extract daily.

Gymnema sylvestre, an herb also known as gurmar, decreases cravings for sweets and helps to control blood sugar. Take 500 milligrams of standardized extract three times day.

Siberian ginseng is an energizer and may help to stabilize blood sugar. Choose a product containing 0.5 percent eleutheroside E and take it according to following program:

After twelve weeks, switch to another herb, such as milk thistle, which strengthens liver function. Choose an extract standardized to contain 80 percent flavonoids (silymarin) and take 200 to 300 milligrams twice daily for one to two months. Another useful herb to consider is fenugreek, which can be taken in tea or capsule form. It has been shown to assist in blood-sugar regulation as well as to increase HDL, the so-called "good cholesterol". Take a cup of fenugreek tea, or 500 milligrams in capsule form, two or three times daily for one to two months. After two months off Siberian ginseng, you can begin the entire rotation over again.
