Keloids Treatment

Read more about...

Surgery or laser treatment may be used to remove the tissue. After removal, the area is injected with a steroid such as triamcinolone to prevent re-scarring in the area. Repeat injections may be deemed necessary in some cases. The benefits of repeat injections have to be weighed against the adverse effects of steroid treatment, which include thinning of the skin, impaired wound healing, stress to the adrenal glands, and depressed immune response, among others. The results of this type of treatment are variable.

If keloids are result of acne, long-term antibiotic therapy may be tried as a preventive to ward off new acne lesions.
