Read more about...

People who are lactose intolerant are often advised to eliminate all dairy products form the diet at first. After a couple of months, you may try drinking small amounts of milk if you take lactase along with it. As an alternative, milk that is pretreated with lactase is available. If symptoms return, however, you may have to consider avoiding dairy foods entirely.

Low-fat dairy products such as yogurt are usually easier to tolerate than milk. In fact, unpasteurized yogurt that contains active yogurt culture can be extremely beneficial for digestion. Goat's milk, buttermilk, and aged cheeses have a lower proportion of lactose than other types of dairy products, so you may be able to consume these even if cow's milk causes a problem.

Avoid processed food products that contain lactose as an ingredients.
