Acidophilus aids digestion by replenishing beneficial bacteria in the intestinal tract. Select a dairy-free product and take one dose twice daily and/or when you eat dairy products, as directed on the product label.

If you determine that you would like to dramatically reduce or delete dairy products from your diet, consider taking supplemental calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D. A daily dose of 800 to 1000 milligrams of calcium and 400 to 500 milligrams of magnesium should prevent deficiency. If you do not get at least fifteen minutes of exposure to direct sunlight daily, also take 200 to 400 international units of vitamin D each day.
