Lactose Intolerance Treatment

Read more about...

Treatment is usually based on avoiding excessive consumption of dairy products. Most people do not need to give up dairy completely, and can determine the level they can tolerate. Also, some dairy products are more likely to provoke symptoms than others. Milk, cottage cheese, and ice cream are high in lactose, aged cheeses contain far less, and plain, unpasteurized yogurt is formed by bacteria that provide their own lactase enzyme.

Lactase tablets are available over the counter. You can take these before ingesting milk products to provide the required enzyme. The number of tablets needed depends on the individual and the quantity of dairy foods involved.
